Campfire Circle Shares Big News — and Receives $5,000 from Simcoe Lions

The highlight of our October 15 meeting was a visit from Penny Banks, Senior Development Officer with Campfire Circle (Camp Trillium), introduced by Lion PP Glenford Deming.

Penny thanked the club for our years of dedication and compassion for the respite camp, noting that Lions have been big boosters of Camp Trillium since its founding more than 25 years ago. She told us she was drawn to the role because it brought together her desire to help and her compassion for a wonderful organization.

Then came the big news: a $5 million budgeted renovation that will double the camp's capacity — from just over 1,000 young campers a year to more than 2,000. She also shared word of a $375,000 grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), spearheaded by District A-711.

The evening ended with us giving back: Lion PP Bill Easdown and Lion PP Glenford Deming presented Penny with $5,000 from our lottery funds for Campfire Circle. It's our third presentation to the camp, bringing our total support to $20,000.

Penny closed by thanking us for bringing the magic of camp to children. We're proud to play a part.
