Mission
Chartered in May 1924, the Des Plaines Lions Club's mission is to serve a world in need, both locally and globally. We empower our volunteers to serve our community,
meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international understanding.

To be the leader in community and humanitarian services in the Des Plaines community.

History
The Des Plaines Lions Club was chartered in 1924 by 40 prominent members of our community. Many will recognize the last names: Behrens, Bishop, Franzen, Kinder, Oehler, Schwass, Sigwalt, Spiegler, Svboda & Talcott.
The club created the Miss Des Plaines pageant in the late 1920s. Our first Miss Des Plaines went on to become Miss Illinois.
The Des Plaines Lions spearheaded the 1935 centennial celebration of the founding of our city. This has gone on to be a celebration every 25 years.
During the depression the club raised funds from it's members and the community to purchase the land that is now Lions Woods, near Golf & River Rd , as a picnic grove for community use.
Over the years we have provided vision & hearing screens, support for those in financial need for eyeglasses & hearing aid, donated to our local food pantries, sponsored blind & deaf children to attend sleepaway camp, sponsored Des Plaines Youth Baseball teams and so much more.
